“I’m Listening” is about what it means to truly connect to someone in this increasingly-digital world, when facebook, text messages and email are accepted substitutes for person-to-person connection.
The story centers around Pete, a counselor at a suicide hotline. Pete takes great pride in his ability to connect with callers and help them through difficult times. However, when Mel, his online girlfriend of two years, insists on their finally meeting in person, Pete rejects her advances and refuses to talk to her. But he didn’t think she’d call the hotline.
With a tuneful, pop-infused score and a great sense of fun, “I’m Listening” explores contemporary social issues with equal parts humor and poignancy.
